Extension and renovation of the mosque and community centre for Colchester
CICC commissioned leading architect Abul Mahdi from Studio Jayga to design the new mosque and community centre. Work started on the site (113 Bromley Road, Colchester CO4 3JG, previously the
Beehive Pub) purchased in 2019.
Abul Mahdi created a stunning design transform this building into modern state of the art building complement the surrounding architecture while exhibiting a distinctive Islamic design (see below).
The building will function both as a mosque and a community centre. The space has been cleverly designed so that the multifunctional hall will be can be subdivided into smaller spaces which can be
used as seminar rooms for classes, meetings and coffee mornings. It will be used as a hub for all manner of community activities and will be wheelchair and family friendly.
Our Vision is to:
- Bring together and unite Muslims of all backgrounds in Colchester.
- Serve the specific needs of Muslims for the betterment of the whole community.
- Serve and work with all communities to make Colchester a better home for all.

Our Objectives:
- Establishing a space for local Muslims.
Our primary objective is to find and purchase land or property to establish a Mosque and Community Centre thereby creating a space for worship and community activities.
- Create an inclusive community
Our second objective is to provide much needed services and activities to build solidarity, community and compassion within our local and diverse Muslim community.
- Serve the community of Colchester
Our third and final objective is to break down barriers, build bridges and improve cohesion to better serve the communities of Colchester through interfaith and partnership work.
